The Guitar Guard is a beginning guitar group where students learn basic guitar techniques like tuning, where the notes are on the fingerboard, hand positioning, notation reading, chording and strumming. Students are encouraged to develop daily practice habits that will lead to a lifetime of enjoying the instrument.
Our beginning book is PROGRESSIVE GUITAR METHOD BOOK 1: BEGINNER by Gary Turner and Brenton White and includes a play-a-long CD and DVD to assist in the learning process. It’s a great way to learn to listen and match pitch, rhythm, technique and style!
Because of the large number of students working together, we use only acoustic guitars.
At Empresa, we feel that the ability to listen in a discerning manner is crucial to a fulfilling life, and that music is a superior vehicle for gaining this particular life skill.
We do have a limited number of instruments available for students to use for the year. If you are interested in using one, please submit an essay form. The top fourteen essay writers will be issued a school instrument for the year.
A printable signup sheet and an essay form are available on our forms page.
Here’s an example of what we do:
This group meets every Monday morning at 7:00 AM and is open to all 5th graders.
