Welcome to the 2020/2021 school year! The Empresa Performing Arts Foundation is thrilled to once again be able to offer weekly music instruction to every Empresa classic and virtual student! In addition, there are several optional virtual musical groups for students to participate in. If you’ve been around Empresa for a while, you probably know all about how exciting these groups are. If you are new to Empresa, here’s a brief look at what we have to offer – click on a group name for more detailed information. A signup sheet is available on our forms page. And, don’t forget to read ALL THE WAY to the bottom of this page – there is information that we expect you to know as a prerequisite for participation in our groups.
Our choir begins on Monday, September 14th, 2020 – Final class on Monday, December 14th, 2020. IMPORTANT !!! If you’ve signed up, come to the first rehearsal unless you hear otherwise! Group 1 meets on Zoom every Monday from 1 pm to 1:30 pm and is open to students in grades 2 and 3. Group 2 meets on Zoom every Monday from 1:35 pm to 2:05 pm and is open to students in grades 4 and 5. Students will learn the fundamentals of singing in a group in unison and in harmony. The first 100 students to sign up will be enrolled.
Begins on Tuesday, September 15th, 2020 – Final class on Tuesday, December 15th, 2020 – If you’ve signed up, come to the first rehearsal unless you hear otherwise! This group is open to students in grades 3 through 5. It meets every Tuesday from 3:15 pm to 3:55 pm on Zoom. Students will reinforce basic notation reading skills, listening skills, and both solo and group improvisation skills. The first 50 students to sign up will be enrolled.
The Castle Wind Ensemble (BAND)
Begins on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020 – Final class on Wednesday, December 16th, 2020 – If you’ve signed up, come to the first rehearsal unless you hear otherwise! This group is open to students in grades 4 and 5. This year we are offering two separate classes, year one for beginners and year two for returning members. Year one meets every Wednesday from 2:25 pm to 3:05 pm. Year two also meets on Wednesdays from 3:15 pm to 3:55 pm. Both classes will take place on Zoom. Students can choose to learn flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, or trombone. Enrollment is unlimited for the group. Starting this year we will have instruments for students to borrow, however, availability is limited so get signed up ASAP.
Begins on Tuesday, September 15th, 2020 – Final class on Tuesday, December 15th, 2020 – If you’ve signed up, come to the first rehearsal unless you hear otherwise! This group is open to students in grade 5 only. It meets every Tuesday from 2:25 pm to 3:05 pm on Zoom. Students will learn the beginning fundamentals of guitar including rhythm (chording) and lead (melodic) playing. The first 30 students to sign up will be enrolled. We do have a limited number of guitars available for student use – click “The Guitar Guard” for details.
Bardic Inspiration Songwriting Club
Begins on Thursday, September 17th, 2020 – Final class on Thursday, December 17th, 2020 – If you’ve signed up, come to the first rehearsal unless you hear otherwise! This group is open to students in grades 3 through 5 only. It meets every Thursday from 3:15 pm to 3:55 pm on Zoom. Students will learn the beginning fundamentals of songwriting including form, melody, and chord progressions. The first 30 students to sign up will be enrolled.
The Royal Court Singers promises to be an exciting challenge. This group is open to students in grades 4 & 5 only. Auditions will be on due on Monday, September 21st. The results of the auditions will be emailed to students by Wednesday, September 23rd. The first official meeting will take place on Thursday, September 24th, and will continue every Thursday on Zoom from 2:25 PM to 3:05 PM. Students will be held to a higher standard of performance and discipline. You can find an audition signup sheet here.

The cost to participate in these groups is 100 dollars per student per group. This covers the entire school year – what a bargain! Additionally, students need to purchase an EMPRESA ROCKS ! t-shirt at a cost of 15 dollars, in their choice of purple with gray lettering or gray with purple lettering. This year the one shirt will be used for all the groups, so you only need to purchase one!
You will be asked to sign a release allowing us to use photos/videos of your student in our promotional and fund raising materials as a condition of participation.
There are additional materials costs associated with band and guitar class – the additional 15.00 covers the book that we use.
Being on time every time for these groups is EXTREMELY important. This means students should be ready to enter the Zoom meeting one minute prior to the start time for EVERY session. Being on time is part of your student’s commitment to the group, and they are dependent on you, their parent or guardian, to have them there on time. Please be sure that you are able to fulfill this requirement before enrolling.
Participation in scheduled performances is also a requirement of the group. Every effort will be made to schedule our major events well in advance so that conflicts can be resolved. Please keep in mind that performing with a group is the harvest of the fruit nurtured in rehearsals and is a CRUCIAL part of the educational process. We realize that conflicts with sports/dance/etc. are inevitable, but we are asking that you give our groups priority for the few scheduled performances over sports, etc. when you sign up so that ALL of our students can receive the maximum benefit. We are the only elementary school in our district that is able to offer a broad-spectrum program like this thanks to your support.
We need to be clear that we do not want our fee schedule to prevent anyone from participating in these groups. Scholarships and/or payment plans will be made available to students on a case by case basis. If you are interested in a scholarship, please contact us to discuss the matter further.
