New Times – New Schedule
Welcome to the 2018/2019 school year! The Empresa Performing Arts Foundation is thrilled to once again be able to offer weekly music instruction to every Empresa student! In addition, there are several optional musical groups for students to participate in. If you’ve been around Empresa for a while, you probably know all about how exciting these groups are. If you are new to Empresa, here’s a brief look at what we have to offer – click on a group name for more detailed information. A printable signup sheet is available on our forms page. And, don’t forget to read ALL THE WAY to the bottom of this page – there is information that we expect you to know as a prerequisite for participation in our groups.
Our choir begins on Monday, August 27th, 2018. IMPORTANT !!! If you’ve signed up, come to the first rehearsal unless you hear otherwise! Group 1 is open to students in grades 2 through 5. It meets every Monday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the music room. Students will learn the fundamentals of singing in a group in unison and in harmony. The first 100 students to sign up will be enrolled.
IMPORTANT: STUDENTS MUST BE PICKED UP AT THE CAGE PROMPTLY BY 2:15 PM – 2 LATE PICKUPS WILL RESULT IN THE STUDENT BEING DROPPED FROM THE GROUP. We will be VERY firm on this policy this year.
Begins on Tuesday, August 28th, 2018 – If you’ve signed up, come to the first rehearsal unless you hear otherwise! This group is open to students in grades 3 through 5. It meets every Tuesday from 7:00 AM to 7:45 AM in the music room. Students will reinforce basic notation reading skills, listening skills, and both solo and group improvisation skills. The first 50 students to sign up will be enrolled.
The Castle Wind Ensemble (BAND)
Begins on Tuesday AFTERNOON, September 4th and Wednesday MORNING, September 5th, 2018 – If you’ve signed up, come to the first rehearsal unless you hear otherwise! This group is open to students in grades 4 and 5. This year we are offering two separate times to allow for more student opportunities. You will have the option to meet with us on Tuesdays from 2:25 PM to 3:10 PM or Wednesdays from 7:00 AM to 7:45 AM in the music room. Students can choose to learn flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet or trombone. Enrollment is unlimited for the group. Unfortunately we do not provide instruments – you must rent (recommended) or purchase one from a local music store.
Begins on Monday, September 10th, 2018 – If you’ve signed up, come to the first rehearsal unless you hear otherwise! This group is open to students in grade 5 only. It meets every Monday from 7:00 AM to 7:45 AM in the music room. Students will learn the beginning fundamentals of guitar including rhythm (chording) and lead (melodic) playing. The first 30 students to sign up will be enrolled. We do have a limited number of guitars available for student use – click “The Guitar Guard” for details.
Begins on Thursday, September 6th, 2017 – If you’ve signed up, come to the first rehearsal unless you hear otherwise! This group is open to students in grade 4 & 5 only. Students must supply their own instrument. It meets every Thursday from 7:00 AM to 7:45 AM in the music room. Students will learn the beginning fundamentals of ukelele including rhythm (chording) and lead (melodic) playing. The first 30 students to sign up will be enrolled.
A brand new program this year, the Royal Court Singers promises to be an exciting challenge. This group is open to students in grade 4 & 5 only. Auditions will be on Wednesday, October 3rd and Thursday, October 4th after school. Results of the auditions will be posted on school campus. The first official meeting will take place on Wednesday October, 17th and will continue every Wednesday after school from 2:25 PM to 3:10 PM starting Wednesday, October 31st. Students will be held to a higher standard of performance and discipline. You can find an audition signup sheet here.

The cost to participate in these groups is 100 dollars per student per group. This covers the entire school year – what a bargain! Additionally, students need to purchase an EMPRESA ROCKS ! t-shirt at a cost of 15 dollars, in their choice of purple with gray lettering or gray with purple lettering. This year the one shirt will be used for all the groups, so you only need to purchase one!
You will be asked to sign a release allowing us to use photos/videos of your student in our promotional and fund raising materials as a condition of participation.
There are additional materials costs associated with band, ukulele and guitar class – the additional 15.00 covers the book that we use.
Being on time every time for these groups is EXTREMELY important. This means students should be ready to enter the music room one minute prior to the start time for EVERY session. Being on time is part of your student’s commitment to the group, and they are dependent on you, their parent or guardian, to have them there on time. Please be sure that you are able to fulfill this requirement before enrolling.
Participation in scheduled performances is also a requirement of the group. Every effort will be made to schedule our major events well in advance so that conflicts can be resolved. Please keep in mind that performing with a group is the harvest of the fruit nurtured in rehearsals and is a CRUCIAL part of the educational process. We realize that conflicts with sports/dance/etc. are inevitable, but we are asking that you give our groups priority for the few scheduled performances over sports, etc. when you sign up so that ALL of our students can receive the maximum benefit. We are the only elementary school in our district that is able to offer a broad-spectrum program like this thanks to your support.
We already have a few dates that you will need to consider when enrolling.
On October 20th, the choir and the percussion group will perform at the annual VUSD Festival of the Arts at what is now the Cinepolis Center.
The date for our annual EPAF Music and Food Fest will be firmed up soon – tentative date will be announced ASAP.
The sign up forms for each of these groups is available at EMPRESAROCKS.COM – If you do not have internet access please call Mr. Cook at 760 940 8454 x45050 and leave your student’s name and their classroom teacher’s name and he will deliver sign up sheets to your student.
We need to be clear that we do not want our fee schedule to prevent anyone from participating in these groups. Scholarships and/or payment plans will be made available to students on a case by case basis. If you are interested in a scholarship, please contact us to discuss the matter further.
