Everything is up and running now! Here’s a look at what’s going on in music…
Kindergarten: We’re learning that everything that makes a sound is vibrating in some way – sometimes you can see it, and sometimes you can’t! And when you change the vibration in some way, you change the sound. SCIENCE!
1st Grade: We’ve started our journey through the instruments of the orchestra with the string family. Coming up, it’s woodwinds, brass and percussion! LISTENING!
2nd Grade: We saw the old crank Victrola and talked about the history of sound recording, and will be starting into the basics of music notation next week. MATH!
3rd Grade: Precorder Song, followed by Merrily We Roll Along – 5 minutes a day is all I ask… LANGUAGE ARTS!
4th Grade: It’s all about appreciating music as we explore different styles, forms and discuss why we like something – or why we don’t like it – using musical terminology. AESTHETIC VALUING!
5th Grade: America’s Music – JAZZ! We’re looking at what caused the birth of America’s indigenous art form and how it took off thanks to American technology and ingenuity – Did you know that the player piano worked thanks to one of the first binary digital systems? Fascinating! HISTORY!
Wait a minute… Science, Listening, Math, Language arts, Aesthetic Valuing and History? I thought this was music class…
